What People are Saying...

“It was by chance we found Maureen and “What a Good Dog” and we now are so very thankful.  Each time people see our puppies, Patches and Butterscotch, – the words right out of their months are “What good dogs”!  How appropriate of a business name for Maureen.  Maureen’s patience and love of animals is what made our experience so wonderful.  She not only trains the dogs but more importantly trains the family.  We now know how to more appropriately work with the “girls” as we all use the same language.  Now we can’t imagine our family without them.  Thanks Maureen!”                                                                                      Cindy about her two 8 month old Border Collie mixes, Patches and Butterscotch

“Thank you so much- Capone is like a new dog- we are so excited!!! He is getting very good at Wait and at Place. We are enjoying him so much. The walks are going great.  Thanks again and looking forward to where he will be after his next session.”
Sarah about her 7 month old Rottweiler puppy, Capone

"Our dogs, Missy and Webster, were sweet but really a handful.  Prior to taking them for training with Maureen, I wasn't able to control them well enough to enjoy taking them for walks.  And, because they were too wild in the house, we weren't able to enjoy the time they spent inside with us.  Our dogs spent two weeks with Maureen in her Board & Train program.  When we went to pick them up, we were super pleased with everything they had learned.  Maureen spent time with us, making sure we understood the new commands and how to reinforce them.  She even made sure that our daughters knew how to control the dogs.  I'm happy to report that both dogs continue to do well at home.  I'm even able to walk BOTH of them together, while pushing a stroller.   When a squirrel ran by and they listened to me, rather than chasing it, I knew that having them trained was a great decision!"

Before finding Maureen, I was considering giving up my black lab (Duke) because of the horrible fights with my blue heeler (Rowdy).  Maureen was able to help me establish who the alpha dog was between the two dogs as well as teaching them that my husband and myself were the bosses of the house.  Since I have been working with Maureen, the fights between my dogs have stopped and I feel like I have two new dogs.  I also want to thank her for her patience during our training sessions and for her willingness to include my son in the training.  My family is forever grateful to Maureen for her help in keeping our dogs together.

"After searching the web for a trainer to help us with our 1 yr old Boxer, I came across Maureen.  We had already invested quite a bit of time and money into training, but still weren’t happy with our results.  Max was a good enough dog, but was still rough and was a challenge to take on walks.  Literally after just one or two sessions with Maureen, Max was a changed dog.  It is a joy to walk him now.  Prior to Maureen, passing a person or another dog on a walk meant that we were crossing the street with him whether we wanted to or not, but now he stays right by our side and continues to walk.  Amazing.  While we had a good training foundation laid, Max was still not truly a member of our family, as he was quite unpredictable.  Now he is quickly becoming a great member of our family and is usually a joy to be around."

"Maureen has such a calming presence that works really well with dogs! Her knowledge of animals allows her approach to dog training to be so simple, yet so effective. I really love that Maureen's training can be customized for each dog and each family targeting specific issues. I would highly recommend Maureen and What a Good Dog training to everyone!"

Paula about her 9 month old Golden Retriever, Dewey

"Our 7-year-old daughter broke her wrist when our 10-year-old dog, Abbey, jerked the leash really hard on a walk and pulled her off her feet.  We had never trained Abbey properly and had given up on enjoying walks with her due to leash pulling.  When we got our basset hound puppy last summer, though, we knew we needed to train her properly right from the beginning.  Thankfully we found out about Maureen! She not only helped us train our basset hound, Annabelle, but she had Abbey walking nicely on the leash almost immediately!  Her understanding of what tools work best for each dog helped so much. She advised us on everything from the size of crate we needed to use for our puppy to how to train both dogs and what leashes would work best for them.  We laughed a lot and really enjoyed the experience.  Our two daughters had a blast getting to watch Maureen in action, and she even incorporated them into the training.  I would recommend her to anyone and am so thankful she was there right when we needed help."
